Increasing passenger numbers necessitated the creation of an additional railway line and platform at Manchester Airport. Having installed the original station roof in 1991, F. Brown plc secured the contract to install the new platform canopy for Main Contractor Carillion plc. This had to match the existing roof and consisted of space framed tubular rafters, a Corus Kalzip waveform outer sheet and crimp curved liner sheets internally, complemented with Kalzip membrane lined steel gutters and accessories. F. Brown plc worked as subcontractor to fabricators, DMG Steelworkers Ltd, with whom much of the design work was undertaken.
